Govt. to offer relief package for tourism sector

The Tourism Ministry will offer a series of concessions, tax reliefs and debt moratoria to the local leisure industry due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 on the industry, said Industrial Exports and Investment Promotion, Tourism and Aviation Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

He said such initiatives were also provided to the Tourism industry when they took office last November as the previous regime had not successfully provided assistance to the industry after the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

He also said Cabinet approval would be sought to offer a more comprehensive package for the industry.

“There have been many requests made especially by the SME Sector and we will provide them a special package soon,” the Minister said.
