Japan’s Taisei Corporation awarded Rs.35bn BIA expansion project
The Government of Sri Lanka has decided to award a Rs.35 billion contract to Japan’s Taisei Corporation for the expansion of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
Accordingly, the proposal submitted by the Minister of Tourism and Aviation was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers to award the contract related to the package ‘A’ of step 2 of the stage II of the Bandaranayake International Airport project to Taisei Corporation to a total contracted sum of Japanese Yen 41,553.89 million and Sri Lankan Rupees 35,135.84 million.
It has been an essential requirement to enhance the capacity related to airport passenger terminal with immediate effect in order to adhere to the situation since it is expected that the number of annual air passengers handled by Bandaranayake International Airport is estimated to reach 20 million by the year 2025.
